Youth Striving for Excellence MIT
The purpose of Youth Striving for Excellence (YSE) MIT is to share the gospel by word and deed, showing the YSE students how much God loves them.
Youth Striving for Excellence (YSE) Ministry Initiative Team (MIT) began in 2014 when a junior at Houston High School, Olivia Howell, returned from a senior high trip to Colorado. After the trip and reading the book Kisses for Katie, Olivia felt that God was leading her to do mission work. She began meeting with Rev. Johnathan Todd, GEC's Mission Pastor about her desire to go to Africa but later decided to look for opportunities to serve in Memphis. She teamed up with a like-minded friend, Caroline Craft and the Director of Youth Striving for Excellence, Pearl Lee. The ministry began! YSE MIT is led by the senior high students. Each year the leadership role is passed on to upcoming senior high students.
Join our senior high students each Tuesday afternoon. We meet GEC at 3:45 pm, load up the van and drive to YSE to help tutor kids of all ages and all subjects. We also provide a variety of fun activities for the kids.
